Hi and thanks for reading more about me!

My Role as a Creative Entrepreneur

It’s only been in the last few years that I’ve been able to clearly define my role. Being married to an oil painter and seeing the years he’s spent perfecting his craft, it never felt right to call myself an artist.

While I’m not a designer, I am a visual person who can “speak the language.” I now confidently identify as a Creative Entrepreneur. To me, this means creating the vision and empowering the right people to bring it to life.

I have a natural talent for recognizing others’ strengths and taking calculated risks – skills I’ve learned are crucial for creating exceptional work and achieving success.

The Early Days of Blogging

The early days of blogging were truly magical – I thought it would last forever. As a middle-class stay-at-home mom with a family of three living month-to-month on one paycheck, I started by creating content during naptimes and evenings (and yes, sometimes while Little Einsteins babysat my child).

When I began earning money from writing for other websites, I made a crucial decision: instead of keeping the much-needed income, I invested it back into my business by hiring a babysitter for 15 hours a week to create content for my own site.

While this might seem like an obvious choice now, it felt incredibly risky at the time – like I was gambling with our limited resources.

But my ability to delay gratification and reinvest in my business has always been intuitive, and it’s paid off tremendously.

I’ve built two multi-million dollar companies with no formal business training or outside investor money, maintaining over 97% control of the company.

Business Evolution

My business journey has been a series of evolutionary steps, each born from the need to stay relevant in a rapidly changing digital landscape and the desire to challenge ourselves creatively.

From Oh Happy Day’s beginnings as a personal blog, to growing into a larger team, launching a shop, and creating Color Factory – each phase has represented growth and adaptation.

Looking Forward

We’re currently in the midst of significant transitions, including expanding Color Factory and reimagining the goals and purpose of Oh Happy Day.

My current aspirations include:

  • Pursuing formal business education
  • Taking a sabbatical
  • Starting a venture with external funding
  • Building a creative incubator focused on experimental, passionate projects

I get bored easily and need to constantly pursue new, fresh challenges. Doing the same thing repeatedly, even if successful, feels soul-crushing to me.

I feel incredibly fortunate in my career path and am excited about what’s next on this journey.
